Millennials and Gen Z are calling this pandemic “Boomer Remover”

The CDC is referring to the outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in China and which has now been detected in more than 100 locations internationally, including in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). (Source:

It is being labeled a pandemic globally. The last pandemic of record traces back to 1918. It was “caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is no universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919.  In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918. It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States.” (Source:

Baby boomers is the generational term given to persons born between 1946 and 1964, the post World War II era. The younger generations are referring to this new pandemic as “Boomer remover”. I’m disgusted.

1. Humanity

We are all human. And I would think, particularly in this day in age, we would also SHOW humanity – kindness, mercy, sympathy. To refer to an outbreak of illness in such cruel terms is everything BUT showing humanity. Shame on you.

2. Perspective

The idiots using these terms are taking to the Internet. Newsflash, the internet your generation has thrived on was created by a boomer. That’s a fact. Your connection to the world is thanks to our boomers. The soapbox that you are using to exercise your cruel freedom of speech is possible thanks to our baby boomers. Stop and think about that.

Baby boomers have contributed so much to our society. To refer to a crisis that is real and happening globally in the way many have is disturbing. We have had so many history lessons on how detrimental something like this can be. Take a lesson. Apologize. And stop referring to Coronavirus as “Boomer remover”.
